A "Press Red" indicator would be meaningless for many time-shifted programmes. But does the picture from the "VCR output" scart (intended for recording of programmes) of a Sky box contain the red dot? In the case of Digiboxes, I don't think there's any fundamental difference between the output of the "TV" and "VCR" SCARTS (for the old analogue boxes, the volume control on the remote worked on the audio output from "TV"). I think they just label them like that simply to avoid confusing people who would ring up help lines asking which one they plug the VCR into.... -- Nick Cooper [Carefully remove the detonators from my e-mail address to reply!] 625-Online - classic British television: http://www.625.org.uk 'Things to Come' - An Incomplete Classic: http://www.thingstocome.org.uk Lost in France (& Belgium) - Two weeks in Normandy, the Somme & Flanders; Simon the Cat of 'HMS Amethyst': http://www.nickcooper.org.uk |

Some interactive content lives on another channel so there is no point recording / showing the red dot because it wouldn't work. |

Today it finally got to Panasonic boxes ![]() Seems so .. my Panasonic DB40 was sitting powered off early this morning .. I think mine's a DB30. It's the silver Panasonic and is nearly 4 years old. What does red-then-backup do for you? errr - takes me into interactive and then out again ... Pressing 'backup' is not an answer, as on the BBC it comes back every 30 mins (eg. News 24) and on commercial TV it comes back after the ad break. Works for me .. If I start on channel (purely for example) 551 and switch to 101 and let the EPG disappear of its own accord (i.e dont press BACKUP to remove it) the channel comes on and no red-dot .. as for any other channel I haven't (in about 2.5hrs of use) been able to make a red-dot appear on SkyOne or ITV1 or 2 .. however I did get a message about my phone line being disconnected when I started the box back up .. I wonder if I reconnect the phone line will it (the box) detect it and give me red-dots willy nilly ... and maybe if you unplug your phone lines it will remove your red-dottiness ... maybe ... Depends on the channel. Sky One don't show the red dot like they used to (they were absolute *******s for it but just tell people about the fact press-red content is available, which is the perfect option) Try BBC News 24. Grrr ... yes see what you mean .. BACKUP makes it vanish .. but only for like 30 mins .. Given that this is happening across several TV platforms and across several makes of digibox, who exactly is to blame? I'm prepared to shift heaven and earth to put a stop to this but just need to know who to start with. James Murdoch ... Good start ![]() another couple of good names would be Tessa Jowell (Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport) and Lord McIntosh of Haringey (Minister For Broadcasting) at the Department for Culture Media & Sport and Julie Kirkbride MP (Shadow Minister For Broadcasting) ... |
