It's their overpriced ISDN offering.

no, as SKY's PC's will pick up the CLI when they dial in.
It is in the T&C's

Thats if you bother to have the units connected to the phone-line.....

If you don't connect the units they'll notice that too.

No they don't, take it from me ;o))

Many thanks for all the advice. Two questions. I now have a decoder and
card. Should I activate the card before leaving the UK, or will it activate
ok when I insert it into the connected decoder in Poland? Is there any way
of getting the BBC, ITV etc. channels in Poland?

1)Buy a Panasonic DSB40 off eBay(best tuner).
2) Phone up sky and subscribe (tell them you already have all the kit so

you
wont get a subsidised box and have to have it connected to the phone

line).
3) Go to Poland and get a satellite installer to put a 1m+ dish up
pointingat the correct satellite.
4)Plug in your box

5) Find a good few of your channels missing as you are way outside
their coverage areas... Anything on Astra 2D is out - all the BBC stuff
/ ITV stuff,/ Disney / Amp / Scuzz / Flaunt etc.

There could be other individual satellite footprints you may struggle
with due to your distance east from the main coverage areas.

Activate it here. Its easier to sort out if anything goes wrong / card
faulty etc. Connect it up overnight the day before you leave to
"refresh" the card, and try not to leave it too long before getting it

Put up a MASSIVE dish. You are looking at 2.5m absolute minimum - and
probably quite a bit bigger, although you would need specialised advice
from a local installer before spending your money....

Have tried putting the card in a friends decoder here in UK but it has not
activated. Can I do this? Is there any reason why the card would not
activate in someone elses decoder? Should I connect my own decoder to his
satellite or would this have no effect? Possibly just a duff card?

What do you mean? Be MUCH more precise. What card? New? Old? What box?
When? For how long?
