Time To Burn said this:

To be sure they are watching the digital channel of say BBC 1 a
viewer would need to select 'info' to see if the 'now and next'
caption appears. I sometimes wonder how many 'digital' viewers are
in fact watching analogue tv by mistake.

A strong case for having an identifying DOG on all digital channels,
if ever there was one.

Please leave. And don't forget to die on the way out.

But they are all voters and no politician that hopes to be elected
can ever say that.

Is it the same 70% that the gov wants to get into university?

Sounds about right to me ...
Isn't this Sky's target audience?

Nah, it needs to go further. I want a banner across the bottom of the screen
saying "YOU ARE WATCHING DIGITAL TV", and a signer in the corner doing the
same in sign language just in case there's any deaf people too lazy to read
subtitles like you are to pick up the freaking remote and press the 'i'
button.

It's perfectly obvious when you're watching analogue. Occasionally my Mum sets
'1' on the VCR instead of the SCART input and setting the Sky box accordingly,
but she'll get used to it as she hasn't had the digibox for long.

If she records from Sky, she'll get an anamorphic 16:9 picture where people
look correctly-proportioned. If she records from analogue, she'll get a
14:9-cropped picture with an entire cast who look related to Cyril Smith.

pedantic

70% of the population *is* stupid.

/pedantic

Are stupid sounds better.

even-more-pedantic
I suspect it's also correct. % means "per cent", or "out of a hundred".

So "seventy out of a hundred are stupid", "seventy" being plural. To
say "seventy out of a hundred is stupid" would be incorrect.
/even-more-pedantic

Hmmm, interesting point, and one which I am in no way qualified to
answer. My original reasoning was that 70% referred to a group of
people...

....I defer.

Hwyl!
