Default A/V Receiver Recommendations

Looking to buy my first A/V Receiver and was wondering if anyone could give
me a few pointers and maybe recommend a few.

Looking to connect at least 2 Xbox's, DVD player, Sky Digital and possibly a
few other bits and bobs.

Budget is around the £300 mark (and must come in silver )

Been poking around Richer Sounds and AV-Land and the best i can come up with
so far are these :-

http://www.avland.co.uk/denon/avr1604/avr-1604.htm

http://www.avland.co.uk/sony/strdb790/index.htm

http://www.avland.co.uk/yamaha/rxv540/index.htm

Many thanks,

I bought this amp from this Marantz amp from Richer Sounds the other day
http://www.richersounds.co.uk/index....l.php&p=301739

It costs £300 (Richer Sounds is at least £50 cheaper than anywhere else on
the net) and you'll be pleased to hear it comes in super shiny silver...! My
first impressions are that its an excellent amp - Home Cinema Choice cream
themselves over it, its slow to load but look here for a review.

Good luck!

Ordered from them twice before Xmas; my centre speaker and a Yamaha
AX640 A/V amp. Based on my experience with them, I wouldn't hesitate to
recommend them - everything went smoothly, delivered next day after
first phoning my wife to check she'd be in to take delivery. Of course,
past performance doesn't necessarily etc. etc., but I'd certainly use
them again.

Tony.

I'd recommend a Pioneer. They're good amps anyway, but the big seller
(especially for a entry level) is that they all (I think) come with a
learning remote. So spend £250 on one, and get a free £50 remote

I'd recommend the VSXC301 if you want one with scart sockets at the back, or
VSXD812 which is a more traditional amp (there is a VSXD712 which has 5.1
output instead of 6.1 and is £70 cheaper). check the remote is learning
though - mine is, the 812 is. I can't confirm the others.

Cheers.
