Default Orange light on rec button?

Hi folks. I have a Hughes HDVR2. I notice the rec button has been on
with orange light for nearly 8 hours now. I remember I read somewhere
that it means it is downloading data from tivo but I am not sure. It
will still turn red when I record program but once I am done, it will
switch back to orange. Is there something wrong with my unit? Should I
unplug and restart again? Thanks in advance.

Orange generally means it's downloading guide data and specials from
Discovery channel at night. If neither of your tuners are currently
tuned to that channel, it's possible your unit needs a restart. DirecTV
rolled out an update recently.

Thanks David. The light finally went away this morning (after 15 hours). I
am not sure what happen and it did not switch to any channel. I guess may
be it is the new update you mention. Thanks again.

If it's the new update, then the system information screen will likely
state the Tivo is
"pending restart", meaning that the new software won't actually install
until you restart the unit.

"David G." shaped the electrons to say:

Well, the unit will restart itself at 2AM if you don't beat it to the
punch. (Unless it is recording, then it'll wait until it is done.)
