Default HDR112 Modem problem?

Hello to all. I have a Series 1 HDR112 that was functioning perfectly until
this morning. We lost power for a few hours and when the power came back
on, we had no dial tone on any of the phones. I went around and unplugged
all of them and it was the 112 that would not release the connection. As
soon as I plug the Tivo in, it breaks the dial tone and the other phones
won't function. I tried a new wire to the outlet just in case, but no luck.
I also tried plugging in the Tivo and getting it to place a call again, but
the call fails with the "no dial tone" message.
Any suggestions? I powered down the Tivo and powered it back up again but
no luck.
If I plug the Tivo in to the phone jack, the once I pick up a phone it
won't hang up.\
Thanks in advance to all for the help and best regards,
Morey G.

or install ethernet card and use broadband access.

Get an external modem. Here's one on eBay at a reasonable price.

Thanks for the advice. I would up grabbing a modem from the guys at
weaknees.com. Ordered it late yesterday (Eastern Time); It's due here
before 4:30 today.
I would go the Ethernet route but first I want to spend the $$$ for the
replacement drive and get more time. I need to take a breather after
Christmas!

How does weaknees get away with charging so much for these modems?
All you need is a US Robotics 28.8 or 33.6 external modem with the
DIP switches set a certain way. I just "fixed" a machine this way, in fact.
It appears to me that they are selling modems for $100 that one can
find for $10 or less at used shops, want ads, etc. Just post in alt.forsale.
your area what you want and you'll probably have a handful of
people offering to sell your theirs for about $10, sometimes less.

I was surprised; I didn't have to load any special commands to the
modem like I've read. In fact, I flip the DIP switch that tells the modem
to specifically *not* use user settings and use the factory defaults instead.
There are other DIP switch settings that need to be changed, but it's a
one-minute job.

Man, what a rip off!

your area

Actually, I just checked and the format tends to be your area.forsale.
No alt. For example, Arizona's for-sale group is az.forsale, Chicago's
is chi.forsale, Madison, Wisconsin's is wi.madison.forsale (etc.)

Well, maybe I got hosed. The allure for me was the convenience of going to
their website, clicking on it and being done with it. There is some value
to "one stop shopping", but I'm not sure about a $70-$80 premium. Next
time I'll try not to be so anxious, considering I had a couple of weeks
left on the program guide when the modem fried.

As for weaknees.com , it seems their other prices are in line....HD
upgrades, that is.
Shame on me for being in a hurry and pi**ing away some $$.

I understand why you did what you did, and you shouldn't
feel that bad. I wasn't scolding you, but rather weaknees.com.
