I have a Phillips DirecTiVo unit (DSR7000). This morning, my remote started
going crazy. If I try to scroll through my Now Playing list or To Do list, the cursor keeps moving up or down until it reaches the top or bottom of the list even if I only press the button once. Once it reaches the top or bottom, it keeps making that "boom" noise as if it were still trying to scroll up or down. Also, I have to be almost on top of the remote sensor for all of the TiVo functions to work. However, my TV functions (volume, on/off, input select) all work fine from my normal seating position. I've tried new batteries in the remote and I also unplugged/replugged the unit (which reboots it, correct?). No change. Isn't there a button sequence that resets the remote? Can anyone tell me what it is?? Any other ideas on this??? Thanks Ray Remove NO and SPAM to reply |

Last time that happened to me, I blamed the cat. Actually, it was a book on the couch pressing down on a different remote. The constant IR pulses, by themselves, were not recognized as being valid by the TiVo. But after a legit IR code from the TiVo remote, the interference confused TiVo's sensor to believe that the button was still pressed. I recommend locating all the remotes in the house to make sure that a partially hidden one is not causing your problems. -Joe |

I recommend locating all the remotes in the house to make sure that
a partially hidden one is not causing your problems. Thanks for that tip, but 10 minutes after I posted my problems the remote magically decided to work again. Go figure. I've tried new batteries in the remote and I also unplugged/replugged the
unit (which reboots it, correct?). No change. Isn't there a button sequence that resets the remote? Yes, it's called taking out the batteries and waiting a minute or so. No, there's not actually a 'reset' in the remote. Bear in mind the Tivo does have a keypress buffer, don't know how many. But it is possible for several commands sent from the remote to get 'stacked up' in the Tivo. I suspect your remote, or another one in the room, had a sticking button. Just pulling the batteries from it while the Tivo had several commands already queued up might not have appeared to have worked. But pulling out the batteries AND power cycling the Tivo WHILE the batteries are out of the remote should have left your Tivo in working order. If not, if it was still going haywire, that'd indicate the Tivo itself was broken or that something 'else' was still spitting out IR signals that bugged the hell out of the Tivo. If it was stable then would be the time to put the batteries back into the remote and see what happens. If it started acting up again, well, that'd be a clear sign something in the remote was broken or that key(s) were stuck down on it. -Bill Kearney |

According to wkearney99 : : I've tried new batteries in the remote and I also unplugged/replugged the : unit (which reboots it, correct?). No change. I had a similar experience a while back. I had swapped out batteries with some other remote. I broke down, bought some new batteries, and when those went into the tivo remote, it went back to normal. Or maybe it was just coincidence with taking longer to replace the batteries... -- URL: http://wiki.tcl.tk/ In God we trust. Another remote in your living room (or whatever) has a book (or cat) sitting on it... which is causing it to emit stray IR pulses that freak out the TiVo... do a headcount on all of your remotes...
