"......Now that it is done,I hope the receiver will retain that info
through power outages and such..."

It will----UP TO A POINT....if the outage is several hours or more,I
doubt it......but if you ever get the dreaded GREEN SCREEN (where it
tells you that the receiver will take 3 hours to repair the data and DO
NOT TOUCH IT [ I got this screen once]) it won't.This occurs if/when you
get a brownout and a surge comes in the power supply and scrambles the
data.If you have an inconsistent power supply,I highly recommend adding
a UPS (uninterruptible power supply).IF it is a "clean" blackout and is
less than 20 minutes, you will be fine.At least that is MY EXPERIENCE
anyway.

If you select 'Check All Channels' and then remove the channels which you
don't like then as new channels are added (regardless of whether you
subscribe to them or not) then they will pop up in your Channels You Receive
list as selected and will show up in your guide.

If you select 'Remove All Channels' and then just add the channels which you
actually receive then the result is that when DirecTV adds new channels
(regardless of whether you subscribe to the new channel or not) it won't
show up in your guide listings until you explicitly add it.

....

Newly added channels will appear "checked" in the "Channels You Receive"
list no matter how that list is originally created. There are a few shopping
channels that come and go on a daily basis. Those channels will magically reappear
selected in the "Channels You Receive" just as any other newly added channel will.

People complain regularly about the shopping channels reappearing in the program
guide when using "Channels I Receive" as the display option. The solution is to
use "Favorites" as the display option.

Nope they don't show up when I start from a blank slate and add in
what I want. This may be an RCA thing however.

Another consideration for several models of RCA receiver is the finite limit to
the number of exception channels you can set. That is to say, if you choose to
"Add All" and then delete the ones you don't want to watch you will not likely
hit the max. On the other hand, if you chose to "Delete All" and then add only
those channels you do want to watch, you may well hit the max, at which time
you will not be able to add more channels. It might appear you are adding
another channel in the add menu, but when you revert to view mode and attempt
to channel surf with the up and down keys you will find the missing channel(s).

It is possible that different models have different limits.

Good luck, this little tidbit is not documented anywhere I've found, but it was
learned the hard way, with a little reverse engineering.
