Default 2 source devices into 1 available port on digital projector?

Hi All -

I haven't quite hooked up my new projector yet in the media room I'm
building, but before I go buying cables and research further, perhaps
you can help me confirm what I need for my planned configuration.

To 'feed' the single female VGA 15-pin (RBG component/HDTV
video-ready) connector on the projector (BenQ 6200), I plan to
connect:

1. DVD player (actually from VGA connector on PC that I'm building as
a 'home theatre PC').

2. HDTV cable box (has typical 3-connection component video hookups).

I do not plan/want to connect anything 'less' than 'component' or XGA
video sources (no RCA video or S-video; perhaps S-video for a VCR at a
later date).

So, from the computer, that's pretty straightforward, because I'll
just be using a typical malemale 15-pin VGA cable for that source
for best image.

And from the HDTV cable box, I will just need a component video (3
cable) to VGA 15-pin (male) cable, and that will be that.

Here's my question: Is there a switchbox or something 'automated' or
'autosensing' for a switchbox such that I have the 2 'source' devices
(HDTV cable box and computer/DVD) coming into it, and then 'out' to
the 6200's VGA port? Does that make sense? I don't want to have to
swap cables for each of those 2 sources, so I need to figure out how
to 'share' the 6200's single VGA connector between the 2 source
devices. Can suggest a configuration and specific cables/parts needed
to achieve this? Thanks for any help. Please email any responses to
me at

If you find such a thing you will have to turn off your cable box or
computer when you aren't watching it. What about sound? Are you getting a
receiver? I suggest an AV receiver that does video switching and conversion.
That way, when you use your remote to switch sources, the sound source will
switch along with the video with the same button push.

Most scalers will do what you are asking plus give you the ability to send
the correct native rate to the projector. Im using an Extron DVS150 with a
NEC LT155 projector.
