Having a professional install next week for a three room Direct Tv setup.
One of the receivers, is going to be the DTivo unit. Here are my questions: 1. Do each of the 3 receivers need to be connected to a phone line? I can definetly connect at least one, but 3 is going to be a pain (I'll have to run wires or buy the wireless jacks). I DO want to watch pay per view and Gameplan on Receiver 1, but have little to no interest watching seperate Payper views/sports on Receiver 2, or Receiver 3. 2. If I either (a) buy a payperview on Receiver 1, or (b) record a Tivo event on Receiver 1, is there an easy way to send this signal to TV 2, and TV 3? For instance, I may record a show on the Tivo and decide I want to watch it in my bedroom (/TV/receiver 2). I assume I would have to bypass the Receiver 2/Receiver 3? Would I need to run coax from Receiver 1 TO Reciver 2/3, and then purchase a switch? Or would S-video be an option. Where can I find the switches? |

The DTivo need the phone for the Tivo service though. 2. S-video would be a tough optio (plust a stereo audio cable). Any place that sells the cable will have the bits you need. You don't need a switch, you can use the bypass feature of the "local" receiver. |

I can Our "professional" installation didn't hook any of the three to a phone line in one house. These three standard receivers have been installed for over six months with no phone lines. In the other house, all three were hooked to phone lines by the installer, including running a new phone line in one location. The DTivo wants to be hooked to a phone line for its own needs, separate from the DirecTV use of a phone line. 2. If I either (a) buy a payperview on Receiver 1, or (b) record a Tivo event on Receiver 1, is there an easy way to send this signal to TV 2, and All receivers have RF-out which could be sent to the other receivers via 'normal" cable. In my case, I used existing cable distribution and rearragned the connections on the splitter in the attic. My DTivo RF-out appears on both of the other receiver as RF-In. Those receivers will feed that signal through to their RF out with a button on the remote. Both of those TVs are RF only. -- --- Clarence A Dold - Hidden Valley (Lake County) CA USA 38.8-122.5 |

I have all 3 of my receivers in the same location (living room). I then "mix" their outputs onto a single coax with modulators and send that all over the house. From any TV, I choose which TiVo to watch by simply changing channels on the TV. I can watch something in the living room, pause it halfway and watch the rest in bed. I never have to worry about which TiVo a program is going to be rtecorded on based on where I think I may want to watch it. |
