Default TiVo/DirecTV Advertising

Some time ago, I think it was after DirecTV took TiVo over, DTV
started downloading advertising to the main TiVo screen. The
advertising is marked with a gold star. It's obnoxious. Sometimes,
it's programming advertising. Other times, it's blatant product
advertising (like ads for Acuras and BMWs).

How can I get this to stop? Haven't there been complaints about this?

how is having a menu item appear "suffering"? you don't have to watch the content.

Some people are just sensitive. Girlish and delicate, if you will.

I look at it this way: I'm more than happy to deal with a couple menu
items, in return for a device that virtually wipes advertising out of my
television viewing experience.

But that's just it. You aren't getting the device in exchange for a few
ads. You are getting the device in exchange for a subscription fee. If
there was no fee, the ads would be more than justified. As a matter of
fact, I would prefer having Tivo funded by ads if it meant an end to the
monthly fee.

My point was that if we are paying for the service, we should not have to
deal with ads.

Do you subscribe to (or buy over the counter) any magazines? Newspapers?
These media all use both subscription revenues and ad revenues to stay
afloat. TiVo's no different in this respect. If you complain about the
"star items" on TiVos, you should be incensed over the ads in magazines
and newspapers, given how much more obtrusive they are.

Would you be willing to give TiVo more money every month to get rid of
the ads?
