I have a PVR 501 and was interested in getting another PVR, but now I see
that they are going to be charging you for that service. The main reason I stuck with Dish instead of DTV is that Dish gave you the PVR service for free. I have been told that you can still use old PVR's for free. Can anyone confirm this, and if that is the case, what models can be used for free and where can I get them? I have tried Ebay, but was looking for some other options. Many thanks. -- |

Darren, As of now DISH is not charging for DVR service on the models 501, 508 and 721. All new models that come out (like the 510 and 921) will have the fee. We don't know if DISH will start charging the fee for the older models sometime in the future. As for where to get a non-fee DISH DVR you might try some of the dealers in your area. The 508 is your best bet. You will likely find the 721s model (two tuner) available too but they still are selling for over $500 (and they are still buggy). If you buy a receiver on eBay be very careful. Before buying one get the receiver serial number and smartcard number and call DISH to verify that there isn't a balance on the card and that the receiver can be sold. If the seller won't provide that information, don't buy from that seller. -- Bill R. Remove No-Junk-Mail- in e-mail address to reply by e-mail |

agree, be sure a seller can assure you that there is no back balance owed on
ANY 'dishnet' product you intend to activate for service...for clarification, the fee that 'echo' has now instituted on new pvr product is 'phased' based on program subscription level...subscribe to enough stuff, and there is no fee...you gotta love these guys, always working to finagle more subscription depth out of customers...
