Directv's web site says "to receive certain sports programming the
receiver must be connected at all times to a land-based phone line". I wanted to get Directv but have no phone except cell in my home. So I called their csr and he said, "You only need to be connected to a phone line to order PPV through your remote". He said I DID NOT need a phone line simply to receive NFL S.T., or any other sports channels. However - the guy sounded like a high-school intern and did not give me the feeling he really knew what he was talking about. So what's the answer on this? Do I need to have a phone line installed before I can get DirecTV's NFL Sunday ticket? Also, if I decided to get Directv WITHOUT the NFL, but with the other SPorts Pak channels - would I need a phone line for those as well? I'm looking at getting a 2-room setup with 2 receivers, don't know if that matters. Thanks, Dennis |

Save yourself $10 and drop those other non-sports channels -
nothing but blackouts and infomercials. They used to have the NFL receivers check in but its too early to tell what they plan this year. I know of lots of people who never plug their receivers in but I have one that must stay plugged up or it goes 722 on a regular basis. And you get those pre-recorded message calls telling you your receiver must stay plugged in. I got a second receiver that has never been plugged in and works just fine.
