This was a surprise but there's nothing it does to sync or otherwise shutdown the filesystem when using the standby feature. Besides, the root filesystem is mounted read-only in normal operation. Pulling the plug won't kill it. I would think that the custom filesystem TiVo uses to hold video is tolerant of power outages and such. (Keep in mind there's no keyboard on which you can punch in "shutdown -h now"...the whole system is designed so that it won't be damaged if you unplug it (like a TV or a VCR when you want to move it) or if the power goes out.) _/_ / v \ Scott Alfter (remove the obvious to send mail) (IIGS( http://alfter.us/ Top-posting! \_^_/ rm -rf /bin/laden What's the most annoying thing on Usenet? -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (Linux) iD8DBQFBrknWVgTKos01OwkRAi8WAKDSTJnktoilOQT6NFnbgq I3PmtapwCdGCWB eYMSOcetBJApcdswRdkPtYw= =tpXc -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Jud Hardcastle shaped the electrons to say:
Huh? Reference please because I don't agree. I was just using the remote to watch a couple of recorded shows - plus skipping commercials - He was a bit off - if the remote has been used within 30 minutes in LiveTV. Just playing recordings or working in the menus doesn't reset the timer. -MZ, RHCE #806199299900541, ex-CISSP #3762 -- URL:mailto:megazoneatmegazone.org Gweep, Discordian, Author, Engineer, me. The reason to go to Standby is so you can watch real-time TV while
you're recording a real-time TV show on another channel. |

I use the standby feature on a regular basis...
I have two S-Video signals "Y" connected, and when I use my DVD player, I set the TiVo to standby to eliminate the non-sync video problem. It's a bit kludgey, but it works! Dave "Frank J. After receiving no signal for some amount of time (around 10min I think), it will shut down itself and the amplifier. Putting the TiVo in standby kills the audio-out, and lets my receiver work the way it is intended. |
