Default Quick replacement by Maxtor.

I mentioned last week that I discovered my DirecTiVo's failed original
Maxtor 5400 rpm 40 Gig Hard Drive was still under warranty (after 22
months), so I filled out the form on Maxtor's web page, and gave them a
valid credit card #, so as to qualify for advance replacement (and
thereby receive packaging for return shipment Maxtor can't complain
about).

The form was filled out last Wednesday afternoon, and the replacement
drive arrived via FedEx Monday morning. Good work Maxtor ! My main
quibble is that return shipping instructions were not included with the
drive, but only in the email confirmation of the RMA #.

They allow 30 days for return to avoid being charged. UPS charged my
$6.95 for Ground Shipment and Insurance.

Not as good as Epson which pays shipping both ways on their printers for
Advance Warranty replacement, but faster receipt of replacement.
