On Wednesday at 9:00 pm I tried to record two programs on my DVR. It kept
telling me I already had two programs to record. This was incorrect. The only thing I could think of was that a previous program was running over time. I had recorded LOST and sure enough it was scheduled to run from 8:00pm to 9:01pm. This one minute overlap was enough to keep me from recording a second program at 9:00pm. So, I tried to record the 9:00pm program manually, but there was a problem. Instead of letting me set the start time at 9:01 or 9:02 it wouldn't start the program until 9:05. In other words, I could only set the time manually in five minute increments. Did I make a mistake, or is this the normal procedure. Now that I think about it I guess I could have recorded LOST from 8:00pm to 9:00pm, but unfortunately I didn't think of that at the time. My bad. CC |

Select 9:05 as the start time, then select options and start recording 4 minutes early. |

Yes, it's normal, but you could have recorded from 9:01 to 10 by recording from 9:05-10 then adding 4 minutes to the start time padding in the recording options screen. Unfortunately you CANNOT record to :58 or :59 (e.g. Apprentice before er) this way, because the UI only allows you to add 1, 2, 5.. minutes to the end. At least not when using it as regular people would.. apparently people have figured out where the padding values are and can hack them. This would be useful to do.. I'd definitely use 4 minutes post padding often. Now that I think about it I guess I could have recorded LOST from 8:00pm to 9:00pm, but unfortunately I didn't think of that at the time. you would have missed the end of Lost. Lost truly does run 1:01. |

"Bob" wrote in message . 6... SNIP NBC has been doing this for years, mainly with their 10pm (ET) shows ... ER (Thursdays) was notorious for starting at 9:59 and there was a stretch of time when both Law & Order (Wednesdays) and Special Victins Unit (Tuesdays) also kicked in a minute early. What some networks will do to keep viewers from straying ... SNIP But what the networks don't understand is that many Tivo owners won't be watching because the times overlap and Tivo won't record them. So in effect they are cutting off their noses to spite their faces. Seems typical of the entertainment industry these days as they continue to resist technology when it's to the consumer's advantage.
