Default value of Series 1 w/ failing HD???

What is a fair price for a Series 1 stand-alone Tivo
with a failing hard drive? (the modem works fine)

Anyone near Indianapolis interested in buying it to save
the hassle/cost of shipping?

Thanks,
Scott

You could likely fix it, hack it and sell it for much more and the only
cost is a little time and less then $100 for a new HD.

Depends on if it has LifeTime service tied to it or not.

Does it have lifetime subscription? If so, then a lot.

I knowingly bought a dead Tivo on eBay for about $70-80.. I forget the
exact amount but my estimates included shipping.

I knew I was going to replace the hard drive.. and I lucked out and
it DID have a lifetime subscription.

I'd say around $60-70.

I forgot to mention that it does NOT have a lifetime
subscription...
I have little interest in investing the time/money to
upgrade the HD for a _potential_ profit. If it didn't
sell after the upgrade, I'd have $100 invested in a Tivo
that will be useless to me (I'm switching to DirectTV).

The value is in the subscription, not the drive.

Without lifetime subscription, it has very little value. It's not totally
valueless as it is one of the machines that can be used with no
subscription, but units like that are also available with a working drive
(80gig) and a warranty from http://www.servicedvr.com for as little as $150.

So, right way, subtract the cost of an 80gig drive from $150, as well as
what people would value their time at (this will vary) and some warranty,
and you're not left with a whole lot of value (in my opinion).
