It was a deliberate decision not to make deletion of a show _too_
easy. A one-button "nuke it!" would probably result in too many accidental deletions, and would lead to blood-curdling screams of "AAAGH! No! Where's the override???" Well that could have been resolved with a standard wastebasket function to retrieve deleted recordings. |

2. It says it stores 80 hours of shows. But is that at lowest quality
only? If so, if you select the highest recording quality, how much time can it record? Yes...I think that disclaimer should have been on the box before we bought our Tivos. At best quality it is only about 14 hours, hence an aftermarket cottage industry has developed adding additional hard drives. When I got my first Tivo, it was the 14 hour model, I had researched it on Tivo.com and I was uneasy about the 6 hours at best. So I decided to go a retail store that had a demo unit and tried Basic for myself and didn't find the image all that bad and I decided to get a unit. To claim it wasn't stated anywhere is false, the site was very clear about the different settings and how much recording time you would get, maybe you simply didn't research your purchase before buying it. I have two 80 hour units and I was recording in Basic up to a few months ago when I switched my display to an HDTV monitor, I got spoiled by the HDTV picture quality that I started to record in Best to maximize my viewing experience. |

Well that could have been resolved with a standard wastebasket function to retrieve deleted recordings. The "wastebasket" function is provided when recordings are allowed to expire. Each recording with a yellow exclamation point icon can be called a "wastebasket" item. The DVR will automatically delete these "wastebasket" items as needed for new recordings. I'd like to see an optional password protected manual delete function. My wife deletes programs she has watched before I have viewed them. |
