Recently the video playback has been freezing on my DirecTivo. It will
freeze for a few seconds or more and then continue playing. Sometimes the remote will respond during this and other times it won't. If I skip back over the "frozen spot" to replay that section, it plays normally. There isn't any pixilation and my signal strength is still fairly high - in the mid 90s across the board. Is this a sign that the HD is starting to die? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advanced, Dave |

What you describe is a classic symptom of a failing drive. Does anyone have any suggestions? Replace the drive before it's too late, if you're interested in preserving your recordings, Season Passes, etc. You can have it done or do it yourself. See http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hinsdale-how-to/ It is not difficult to do it yourself. I've done two upgrades and one drive replacement, and I have no special skills. |

Yeah, I was afraid of that. I've done it before but I have two drives in my
TiVo and it's bit of effort to replace both of them since I don't know which one is failing. Dave "Dr. Personality" wrote in message ... If you have a PC (as opposed to a Mac), you can use the drive manufacturer's diagnostic software to see which drive is faulty. These tests are non-destructive (at least the ones for Maxtor and Western Digital are, and those are the two I'm familiar with). The software will also determine if your failing drive is still under warranty. |
