Can anyone point me to simple documentation that will tell me
everything I need to do to accomplish this (ability to rename program names/descriptions)? I have a series 2 & heard that TivoWeb can do this but where do I start? Do I need an ethernet connections? My Tivo is using a modem now. What do I do to access the Shell I keep hearing about? Any info will be appreciated. I'm new to all this. 7078895 /ra |

It's along the lines of: remove disk from TiVo and put in PC long enough to replace the Operating System kernel with a different one, disable encryption, install device drivers, enable telnet server daemon, install disk back in TiVo, do a triple boot, then access the TiVo Web server. -Joe |

Lenroc,
Have you done this before? Do you have any links or docs I can see that will show me the process of getting the ability to rename programs on my tivo s2. I posted on the tivocommunity.com but have yet to year any answer. /ra Lenroc wrote in message news:[email protected] hotmail.com... Once you have TivoWeb (TivowebPlus, actually) installed, you'll be set. What you really want to know is how to follow the steps outlined by Joe above, with the corrections I pointed out. I posted on the tivocommunity.com but have yet to year any answer. There's your trouble. Let's just leave it at... they don't condone S2 hacking. Try a google for "tivoweb install series 2". ROFL... just trying it myself, the first result is quite appropriate ![]() As in: http://www.google.com/search?q=tivoweb%20install%20series%202&btnI=I'm%2 BFeeling%2BLucky which redirects to: http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=28921 READ EVERYTHING THERE before you post anything anywhere. Ok... you don't really need to read _all_ the pages of that thread. But you likely won't be helped if you ask a question that's answered in that thread. All the issues you'll run into are probably covered in the first 5 pages. If not, try searching that thread first, and if that fails search the forums at large, _before_ asking for help. If you feel you must, ask for help in the Newbie forum, and put on your flame-retardant suit first. The regulars at DDB are not helpful to newbs who don't take the time to search, read, and then search again. This can be a challenge because it's not laid out exceptionally well. But rest assured that if you ask something that's been answered on the forum even once, you will be ridiculed, at the least :-P Follow the instructions in that thread (hacking the TiVo instructions from the beginning of the thread, individual program suggestions from later in the thread, since most of the tools on the CD are now obsolete), then search for TivowebPlus. Install it from a TPM, and you're done. -- Lenroc |
