Default TV capture card and TIVO

I have my "video computer" in a room where I have the Tivos coax output (not
video out) feeding a TV.

I should be able to get one of these TV capture cards, use the coax
connection, turn to channel 3 and be able to record to the hard
drive....shouldn't I?

Wish I could grab the video out but the tivo rcvr is too far away.

By the way....how much is Directv charging now for an additional rcvr?

Most TV capture cards have A/V inputs, not coaxial. You would need a TV
tuner card. How far is the run? I've run the s-video cable about 30' with
only a little loss a video quality.

I have a 50' run using two pair of RG-6 Coax, one pair for the
R&L audio and one pair for the two parts of the S-Video cable.
I use F connector to RCA adapters and an S-Video to RCA pig-
tail/breakout on each end of the S-Video pair. I can detect no loss.

Luck;
Ken

Some capture cards (like the "WinTV PVR250") have tuners built in, and can
record from the RF output, but the video quality will be lower and the audio
will be mono - there is no stereo audio modulator in a Tivo (or most other
video modulators that cost less than several hundred dollars - I've gone
looking :-).

I have such a setup (PVR250 connected by RF coax, about 70 feet or so) and
have made some recordings from it, but I'm planning on relocating my computer
to make the use of direct S-video cables practical. It's possible to run them
for 50-100 feet if you use the right cable, but not typically with the thin
S-video cables that you see in most home video installations.
