Default Tivo Hard Drive Connected Via IDE On PC

Hi,
I have Hughes HDVR2 that has been upgraded to a 160 GB drive. It has
been modified and supposed to be able to transfer files via the USB
port. I've purchased the USB100M & USB200M and had no success in
getting the Tivo networked using FlashFTP using all the correct
settings. I have several shows that I'd love to edit and transfer to
DVD. I have the software and hardware to make all this possible, but
without the files I can't do anything. My last resort was to take the
HDD out of the Tivo unit and install it in my PC and try to directly
copy the need files. Of course windows didn't recognize the drive, but
in admin tools I was able to see the drive. Not wanting to screw
things up I opted not to reconfigure the drive, which a little later
was very happy I didn't because I would have lost everything. Is there
any software (utilities or programs) that will make easy work of this
task? If so, is there doc files included that the average guy could
follow? If transferring files directly off the tivo drive that is
installed in a PC is possible I would love to take advantage of it.
Can anyone help me out.

Thanks
FLEX

Which software? Ignoring for the moment software that runs on the PC,
what software have you installed in your TiVo thus far?
Are you running a modified (or monte) OS on the TiVo?
Have you disabled encryption on the TiVo?
Have you installed the FTP and/or mfs_ftp servers on the TiVo?
There's a lot to do before running tyStudio on the PC.

Sounds like the FTP server is not enabled.
First off, use the telnet program to get to your TiVo.
Then use "ls -l /var/hack" to get an idea of what is installed.
Use "ps ax" and check for 'tivoweb', 'ftp', and/or 'mfs_ftp'.
