Default Tivo power cord info..

Just to feed the Google Groups god, in case someone needs to find this
info in the future.

Thanks to Seth Lerman for the info.

In case anyone ever needs to buy a power cord for a Tivo, you can get them
at Radio Shack. (This part surprised me, because I have never seen
a power cord exactly like Tivo's before.)

This one is just like Tivo's power cord:
Part# 61-2878
http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...Fname=CT LG%5
F009%5F001%5F003%5F000&product%5Fid=61%2D2878
(this one is polarized)

This one isn't polarized, but looks like it would work:
Part# 61-2876
http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...Fname=CT LG%5
F009%5F001%5F003%5F000&product%5Fid=61%2D2876

I bought a Tivo off of eBay, and I guess I lucked out. I was being frugal (I
realize others would use a different word), and bought one with NO power cord,
no remote, and the description described a bad hard drive. I already have
a 60 gig hard drive unused after I upgraded from the 60 to a 120.

I originally went to "Weird Stuff" (a warehouse that has TONS of old
electronics and stuff -- I realized an apropos description as I was there --
they have EVERYTHING, except exactly what you're looking for), and got a
_similar_ power cord for $1. I wasn't able to get it to fit after mangling it
(trying to cut the 'v' notches and trying to make it a little bit narrower) and
finally asked about it.. That's when Seth mentioned Radio Shack. So I guess I
wasted a buck on a power cord, but the phone line splitter was 50 cents, so in
total it was still less than what I would've paid at Fry's for just the
splitter.

So I plopped in my existing 60 gig drive and it works great.

How did I luck out? The Tivo has lifetime subscription. I originally was
intending on using it subscriptionless. So for ~$76 (including shipping),
and the drive I already had that was sitting unused, I've got a 2nd Tivo with
subscription.

I'm currently using the "hold Tivo + pause for 5 seconds, then hit number"
to use one remote with two Tivos..

Does anybody know if the DirecTV remotes that have the Tivo 1/2 switch on
them will work with Philips series 1 standalones? I may buy one on ebay to
make it a bit less of a pain. (If it weren't a 5 second wait, the existing
solution wouldn't be too bad.)

Yes, the $30 ($35 in colors) 34 button remote at http://store.tivo.com work
fine on any TiVo except Sony. The one oddity is that the LiveTV/Guide
buttons act a little strange when going back and forth between the original
S1 remote (where they are combined) and the S2 remote (the 34 button model
they sell at the store). I forget exactly what the oddity is, but it's
minor.

Commonly used on DCT set tops and older Surfboard cable modems. At
least the Shack is not charging too much. I have thousands on pallets,
cost me less than a buck apiece.

I like Weird Stuff too, great way to waste a lunch hour.

I believe they do since this remote controls my Philips TiVo series 1.

https://store.tivo.com/main.aspx?cid=104

Replacement 34 button DVR remote, charcoal

Use this replacement remote with any Philips, Hughes or Series2
Digital Video Recorder (Series2 DVRs are from TiVo and AT&T
Broadband), including the DIRECTV Receiver with TiVo. New features are
the ability to control two different DVR's with a simple flick of a
switch and the ability to control your TV's input setting.
Instructions included. This remote does not work with Sony branded DVR
products. Window button included for possible future TiVo service
feature.

Have you checked out their live camera page?

"How is it done?(That's what we want to know).
"Nobody is left here that knows. That's right, we are still trying to
figure it out. There is a Snappy hanging off one of the computers labeled
Video Server. There are bugs on it and spider droppings. No one will go
back there anymore. It's the same with our network and server room. Going
in there is scary. People go in but don't come out."
