Being a new dad I now find my Tivo (Series 1 Thompson) is filling up
rapidly - except now instead of Dawn of the Dead, Hellraiser, Alien/s, Dirty Harry etc. it's filling up with Fimbles, Tweenies and 'Bits and Bobs' - not to mention my wife's new found daytime TV serials - as such we have had to reduce the quality setting to 'Medium' which isnt great. I am a techie but don't kn ow if I can stand the formidable wrath that would result if I tried swapping the hard disk out myself and screwed it up so was wondering if anyone can recommend a UK based outfit that will stick in a large HD to my machine for me?? On that topic is there a limit to the size of hard disk or can I just go for the biggest one (standard IDE presumably) I can find? Many thanks in advance. |

The kernal is limited to 137 GB, so you can use a 120 GB drive, or a 160 MB, with some waste. I haven't seen any UK vendors of upgrade kits, but from what I seen, it shouldn't be too hard to DIY. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= *** Usenet.com - The #1 Usenet Newsgroup Service on The Planet! *** http://www.usenet.com Unlimited Download - 19 Seperate Servers - 90,000 groups - Uncensored -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |

However, seriously, you're really unlikely to need that much space; our main Tivo has 2 * 120gb drives, and its 'now playing' list is a mile long... still with loads of suggestions, and mucho free space! - duncan Incidentally, when the original drive went bad, an outfit in Ireland did a great job on repairing and fitting new direives, aerial sockets and such, and didn't cost that much, either. So, if you'd prefer to have your upgrade done professionally, let me know and I'll dig out the details. |

Sounds like the pacelink crew, they are based in Kesh, Co Fermanagh. http://www.pacelink.co.uk/tivo.htm -- Steve |
