Default NEWBIE question

Let me preface this question by saying I really don't know a bunch
about hooking up cable, etc. That being said, here's my question:

I recently just bought a DirecTivo that has 2 connectors on the back of
it enabling me to record 2 shows at the same time. Now, I have the dual
LNB satellite hookup, but the cables go to seperate rooms. I only have
one connecion available to hook into my Tivo. How can I split this one
connection so I can enjoy the full functionality it provides without
completely re-wiring my house? Most amplified multi-switches I've
looked at require both connections from the dual LNB to be plugged into
it. Please help (and also, please don't flame me for my ignorance!)

In order to do what you want, you _must_ use either a multiswitch
(connected to both LNBs on the dish) or a stacker/unstacker. The
multiswitch is going to be a lot less expensive.

You cannot simply split a single standard LNB feed, and use it to
drive two tuners (or two sepearate receivers). The two tuners will
"fight" over the LNB polarity roughly half of the time, and one of the
two will lose and won't get the signal it wants.

Your best bet is probably to buy an outdoor-rated (waterproof and
weatherproof) multiswitch. Mount it in some convenient location,
either at the dish or at the point at which the two LNB feedlines from
the dish take off in separate directions. Feed the multiswitch from
the two LNBs on the dish. Connect your two existing downfeed lines to
two of the multiswitch outputs, and run a third line from the
multiswitch to the room where you have your TiVo installed.

Thats too expensive. Instead one calls up DirecTv, tells them they just
bought a DirecTivo and needs an installation. If you say you want to
receive the NASA channel, you get the 3 LNB dish (maybe upto $50) and
free installation, which will include the multiswitch that you do not
need to buy separately.
