Any word on whether Tivo plan on deducing the subscription prices to become
more competitive other cable companies DVR plans? |

If I was TiVo I'd keep the price the same only because I've seen a lot of
these "DVR's" that the Cable Services provide... example that Scientific Atlanta junk... and that's what I feel it is... it is no where as good as TiVo and I would pay the extra for it. But more so I just buy life time anyway because it pays itself back very quickly... I don't see the Cable services offering life time with their POS. :-) Just my thoughts. I just purchased a DirecTiVo for $99.00 at Best Buy. So far it hasn't hiccupped once! It has all the great features and benefits TiVo is known for and it really does not cost an arm or a leg to use. I have Premium Plus with local channels (I live in a major metro area so they have almost all the stations in this market) and pay $41 bucks a month. Sure, the cable companies warn you of those pesky rain fades, but you don't have to worry about some clown hitting a power pole or an ice storm taking out your service. AND - the transport system infinitely more reliable than cable's considering a breakdown on a satellite would take down far more customers than a fried distribution amp. So far it's Fried Distribution amp - several thousand (maybe more...) Direct to customer Satellite failure - Zero (Yes, there have been satellite failures, but none were delivering programming direct to consumers like DirecTV or Dish Network that I am aware of). Finally, my brother has rigged a larger dish to his DirecTV LNB. It increased the signal-to-noise ratio to the point that Hurricane Isabel took out the local power grid before he lost DirecTV due to rain fade. Ack |

Phil: Sorry, I meant an ice storm taking out your Cable service. Many cable systems still hang their lines on utility poles, which are knocked down by careless drivers, wind and ice storms... I have yet to lose a satellite signal in Western Missouri to ice buildup on my DirecTV dual-feedhorn antenna -- mainly because they are such rare occurrences. |

Sure, the cable companies warn you of those pesky rain fades, but you don't have to worry about some clown hitting a power pole or an ice storm taking out your service. The only times we've had DirecTV reception issues are when the weather is to the point of us shutting off the TV and heading toward the basement and listening to the radio. Cable companies take this rare occurance (maybe twice a year) and blow it way out of proportion. At least where I live... |

I was just pointing out the other "ice" related issue that Satellite has, that cable doesn't. Of course, that is region specific. |

Those cable companies will NEVER get such complicated hardware/software correct. All hail TIVO. The ONLY company who could possibly do this. It's a friggin thousand bucks for the HD direct TV box? Holy ****. I think Comcast is planning on charging 9.99 a month. Sean |
