Default jerky playback

My stand-alone TIVO has developed an nasty jerky and freezing sound
and motion for up to a second when in playback. This occurs with a
frequency that could be every couple of seconds then back off with
regular playback for up to a couple of minutes before it attacks
again. It is the playback mechanism because if I rewind the jerky
area and play it back it will playback the jerky area ok then start
jerking in another area that already played ok. Anybody know what to
do before I call Tivo Tech support?

You can try doing a complete reset, first by unplugging
the machine and plugging it back in after a 30 second delay.
If that doesn't fix things, you can try a complete reset via the
menu system, which will delete everything you have recorded
and configured. Chances are good, however, that one or
more of your hard drives are failing.

Someone suggested turning the unit upside down for a few days, the person
that reported the problem said this improved the symptoms, YMMV.

I would go get another harddrive in preparation for the ineveitable
failure that souonds like its on the way.
