But don't forget that Leavers will argue (with a fair degree of justification) that they will all be the immigrants WE want and need, and not simply those we have to let in. The only problem at the moment seems to be that for anything permanent, they will have to be going to earn (IIRC) at least £30k plus pa. Why is that a problem for you? -- Evremonde |

What cargoes? Do you think it's a major port? Or are you just showing your ignorance yet again? Lowestoft has a 620 metre quay for cargo. Yes, it's where the few fishing boats left tie up to service the three remaining fish dealers on the semi-derelict quayside scheduled for redevelopment. Nonsense. You are so rusty at Google you couldn't find this about the cargo quay at Lowestoft: "North Quay, a mixed use quay, is the longest quay in the Inner Harbour at c.620m. The North Quay Terminal allows mobile cranage to be used, together with 16,000 m2 of storage for forest products, steel, and general cargo" Google will show you how many tens of thousands of tons of cargoes it handles. Even a minor port requires customs declarations. Or didnt you know that? Is that why you selected it by name? How many tens of thousand of tons of cargo did your research find Lowestoft handles? That explains why you are ignorant to ask "What cargoes?" Want to know what's in Lowestoft port at the moment? One port tender and four pleasure craft, none over 12 metres in length. Says who? Says AIS. Rather than make reference to this hour's arrivals They're not 'arrivals', nor are they this hour's anything. They're all the boats in the port of Lowestoft, and they've been there all day. You mention 5 vessels but in fact AIS lists these and other sites, such as Marine Traffic, My Ship Tracking and Vessel Tracker agree. "123, Aberdaron Bay, Base, Flatholm, Galmara, Gentle One, Gv Aora, Iceni Defender, Iceni Legend, Iceni Vengeance, Iceni Venture, Iceni Warrior, Jodzert, Lady Martina, Luna Sea, Mtb102, Pendulum, Porth Nefyn, Qui Vive, Seacat Freedom, Serene Dawn, Severn Provider, Sure Pride, Sure Shamal, Umoe Firmus, Windcat 1, Windcat 11, Windcat 14, Windcat 16, Windcat 23, Windcat 44, Windcat 5" It depends what you class as the port. If you include all the dinghies and little boats up the river as well I guess you can get to the total you claim. But I don't. Care to tell us which of those you list carry what any normal person would regard as cargo? And how big the biggest is? why not give the total figure for shipping movements in the last 12 months? If you have a point, I expect you'll make it soon. You have failed to state how many tens of thosuands of tons in cargo Lowestoft handles in a year. Please try again. I found it easy to find but it seems you are struggling. Why then are you so reluctant to make your point, if you have one? It's not exactly buzzing with commercial activity, and hasn't been for years. Maybe not in a given one hour slot on a slow weekend but the other stats you post shoul dbe interesting. Post whatever you want. Your inability to back up your wild claim has been noted. It's your assertions about Lowestoft that we're discussing, not mine. |

My statement, which you seem to have forgotten despite trying to initially disprove it, is that Lowestoft has to seal cargoes and make customs declaration and so its procedures can't be compared directly to a proposed open border in NI. Get it now? Did you forget that in your attempt to go round and round in another of your almighty trolling circular arguments with no purpose? |

"NY" wrote in message ... "Swer" wrote in message ... In the words of the WW1 song, it could well be a case of "We don't want to lose you, but we think you ought to go". I don't believe that's what the EU is doing. They would clearly prefer that the UK didn't leave the EU and that's for very good reasons from their point of view. And yet despite not wanting us to go, they still won't negotiate a deal which is more acceptable to us. I get the impression that this is because they genuinely don't understand why anyone would want to leave It is much more about making it very hard to leave in the hope that the UK will change its mind and not leave. and why anyone would be concerned about gradually increasing loss of sovereignty and immigration control. Maybe we feel differently to the rest of the EU because we are an island - but then Ireland doesn't feel the same as us. Doesn't explain Hungary that is similarly ****ed off about what the EU has told it it has to do about illegal immigrants, and Italy which has been told that its budget isnt satisfactory and that it must do it again because the EU doesn't like it. I wish we'd been able to fight for change from within, but it wasn't to be, and we need to be courageous enough to try to go it alone. I agree. I wish "Europe" had remained just a trading alliance without any of the greater political/legal/immigration union that Maastricht brought about. I agree. |

Frenchmen are restricted by law to having only one egg for breakfast because it is considered to be enough. :-) |
