Default Directv Tivo "Clearing and Deleting" Forever! Help!!! Bad drive? Can I replace without a backup?

I bought a Hughes Directv Tivo receiver off of ebay. It seemed to work fine
once I got a new access card in it. However, I tried to "Clear and Delete
Everything" to get a clean slate and it's done. It says "Clearing and
Deleting Everything - This Should Take An Hour". It's been over 30 hours
already! I've tried unplugging it, but after it warms up I go back into the
same exact message.

Is my hard drive bad or is it something else? Can I replace the hard drive
without a backup? I'm assuming I don't want to back up a damaged hard
drive.

I need help!!!

Thanks in advance.

http://www.weaknees.com will sell you a kit. Just drop the hard drive in, and you're in
business.
