Long time since I've posted on a ng... and the first time in this
one... be gentle! Just got Directv+Tivo, and LOVE it. LOVE it. Had it, oh, 48 hours, and it's already changed my life. But, I've got one minor gripe; I hope someone can help. I've google'd on it, looking high and low, and haven't found anything... if there's a pre-existing answer, a pointer would be great! Anyway, here goes: New Hughes DVR40, 2-tuner, dual LNB with both cables attached... lemme know where to get more info, if needed, and I'll post it. On page 34 of my manual, I read: "You can pause live TV for up to 30 minutes! With Dual Tuner, you can switch between two channels in live TV without losing the saved portion of either one." Maybe I'm stoopid, but it ain't working for me. I believe the dual-tuner is working, as I can record two programs at once, and can record one program while watching and recording another. BUT, when I switch channels, when nothing is recording (either by entering a specific channel number, using the guide, or the up-channel button), then hit the "recall/enter" button... I've lost the buffer of the previous channel. Is it just me? Anybody else? Maybe I'm doing something dumb? If it's working for you, can you tell me what you do, specifically? Is it coming in a software update? Or? Help? Thanks! Jim google -at- sonoma3-zero- dot org |

Poor wording there. "With Dual Tuner, you can switch between two tuners in live TV without losing the saved portion of either one." Note: You must change tuners, not change channels, for that to work. -Joe |

If the tuner content was buffered you wouldn't lose it on a channel change. ; = ) |

Is it just me? Anybody else? Maybe I'm doing something dumb? If it's
working for you, can you tell me what you do, specifically? .... And the winner is: "You're doing something dumb. Reread the manual and try a few more, somewhat-obscure, things." The veil lifts! Thanks for the info, and precise, idiot-proof instructive responses. Now I Get It. 'course, the pedantic, user-oriented, customer-service-freak side of me screams: "Why isn't the manual more clear? Better yet, why doesn't it do what I expect??" Then, the project manager side of me kicks in: "Hah. Right. Try getting docs and marketing to downgrade the manual, or the developers to debug it in time." Anyway. 't'is All Clear Now. Thanks to y'all. So far, this magic box has been the best thing to happen to my hopeless, jobless butt this year. Thanks, Tivo! Jim tivo -at- sonoma-three-zero dot not-com-but-oh-are-gee p.s.... if anyone tried to email me at [email protected], I apologize. I had to /dev/null it thanks to spam within hours. Thought I'd have at least a few days. |

We have a winner!
-Larry "Jack Ak" wrote in message m... The secret is to switch *tuners*, not channels. Press Info then down arrow to see what is buffering on the other tuner. The shortcut is to press down arrow on the gray pad to switch tuners. The progress bar will display briefly to show the amount of buffered content when you switch tuners. You should press Pause before switching tuners. This will allow alternate watching of two programs. |

The gray pad down arrow switches tuners on any TiVo remote regardless of the Live TV button function. The Live TV button won't switch tuners on a first generation DVR unless a second generation TiVo remote is used. That's what *I* said. :-) |

When the show on one tuner goes into commercial, pause it and switch tuners, when this tuner goes into commercial, pause it and switch back, this way you can watch 2 'live' shows at once, avoid commercials, and not miss a beat ![]() Not very useful once you switch over from watching live TV but still a neat trick. -- David | AGM Favorite Games - http://tinyurl.com/loec Even if you do learn to speak correct English, whom are you going to speak it to? -- Clarence Darrow |
