That's the point. 40/2 is not worth the extra money as I already get
14/1.
I'd want a better upload speed if I were to get fibre.

Our 40mbps 'Unlimited Fibre' FTTC product is provisioned with 2mbps upload.

Thanks Bob. What are my options if I want a higher upload speed? An
increase of 1mbps is not great.

Go to an ISP who provides a decent choice. PN is not one.

Any recommendations?

Zen.

We use VM here which suits us fine as we're on their network, but we use
Zen Internet elsewhere and they are good, there're very good at kicking
Openreach when occasion demands...

But if Openreach fail to attend a customer site as promised Zen are
powerless to get reasonable compensation - and I will have wasted a
half-day to boot (9:00 to 13:00 or 13:00 to 18:00).

By contrast if I fail to provide access to an Openreach technician as
promised Zen will reclaim the Openreach charge (£150) from me.

Having said that, I've never known any other ISP get compensation out of
Openreach when one of their technicians fails to attend as agreed.

Anybody know any different?

What I like about Zen, apart from the consistant and reliable service,
is a helpline in the UK staffed by bods who speak English, actually
listen, and don't religiously follow a script.

Ah, well speak Mancunia - which it seems many south of the Trent have
difficulty understanding?

The same is true of Plusnet. With one single exception ("got out of wrong
side of bed" syndrome?) all the help staff I've dealt with have been very
helpful and you can have an as-equals talk without having to endure that
weird combination of being patronising and yet clueless that Asian teams
manage so well :-)

Likewise for PN, except it's Sheffield/Leeds/West Riding accents in their
case. No prob for me since I was born in Leeds.

Ta. Looks like Zen do 40/10 and 80/20 packages.

That's presumably because there's no-one there to talk to.
