Oh Really, if a tree blows over in London expect to see it on BBC NEWS
24/7 for the next two days...

I remember 1987.

Ah yes, the famous Great Storm of Fleet Street...

It mostly did damage not by sheer strength, but because it was unusual.
Much in the south was not designed/grown for it.

Andy

I remember walking through Hyde Park two days afterwards and seeing
several trees where the trunk had been snapped at around head height.
They were decent sized trees with trunks about a foot in diameter at the
break, and snapping green wood that size takes a lot of leverage.

No sign of dementia then.

I too remember 1987, 2015 not so much.

Surely there is nothing wrong with a spring as long as the water has
some where to go after it gurgles up.

As we are on a hill, it's really our neighbours who need to tell their
insurers about the spring.

The trees that grow half-way up Cairn Gorm are little stubby things with
fat trunks. They've had wind all their lives; they're used to it. They'd
have laughed at the wind that those soft southern trees couldn't take.
(in fact, as there was a gust of 140 at the top last week they'd better
be strong).

The trees in the lowland south aren't use to summer gales, and have
evolved to grow fast in woodland. Grow slow and you get no light; you're
dead.

I was surprised last night, it took about 20 minutes before there was
a report on the BBC 10pm news, although of course we still had to have
a reporter on the Hampshire coast showing us how difficult it was to
stand up, aided by other passing organ donors.

Then when the local news came on, it was pushed down the running order
behind a murdered couple from Chichester, and a story about female
genital mutilation (repackaged stuff to fill airtime from a documentary
earlier yesterday evening)

Limp-wristed faggots!

You're too kind.
