Right we saw how those Northern poofs couldn't cope with a little drop

Ah yes, the famous Great Storm of Fleet Street...

It mostly did damage not by sheer strength, but because it was unusual.
Much in the south was not designed/grown for it.

No, the acres of beech trees just fell over, I suppose. It was unusual in
that the high winds occurred when the trees were still in leaf and
staurated with rain.

about the spring that gurgles up in our front garden whenever it rains
heavily.
