Sky + HD box.
One of the buttons on the remote was not working properly. Whilst looking in to it we used a remote from the previous non HD box. I noticed that the standbye button was not working, it had worked fine on this box in the past. The LED was not flashing when the button was press. The batteries are new. Google was my friend and I fixed the HD remote, full of muck. Flushed with success I took the old remote with the dodgy standbye button apart and cleaned it. The standbye LED is now flashing, I was dead pleased with myself. Trouble is that although the LED is flashing it does not turn the Sky box on or off. I need to be able to use standbye to enter the code for the TV. The volume control does not work without the code I've tried using the other remote and turning off on the box, the TV will still not accept the code. Seems that it must be done on the remote? Am I goosed or is there a way round this? Thanks. |

This muck factor also seems to happen in the smart talk remote. It is some
kind of lubricant used in the rubber mat and it gets into the pits where the button connects to, and is apparently non conductive. I've had to tackle these remotes several times for this problem and its very hard to get off. I almost tried an ultrasonic cleaner but rather suspected this might trash the electronics. anyone tried it on remote gunk removal? Just getting some remotes apart without breaking them is a challenge. Brian "Mr Pounder Esquire" wrote in message ... Sky + HD box. One of the buttons on the remote was not working properly. What I can't understand is the LED now flashes when I press the standby button, but does not turn the TV on or off. I used ...... ahem ....... nail polish remover to clean the rubber mat and the PCB up. My knowledge of electronics is zero. I'm wondering if soaking the board in white spirit would help. |

We used IPA, as this is safer.
Its not a solvent for the common plastics. If its flashing then it should work, providing of course it is known to have worked before. The remote rule of thumb seems to be that any replacement acquired tends to not work in one or more ways, though other things do work. Its all very disconcerting. I also notice a lot of remotes seem to have a plug or socket in them, presumably to reprogram the unit for other models at manufacture, so the companies selling them change the basics when they start a new model. Its all a giant conspiracy to stop people using their tvs etc when the remote goes rung. Brian "Mr Pounder Esquire" wrote in message ... This guy said press the Sky button first, then the standby button will work. I was about to hit the sack but gave it a go with the TV turned off, it worked on the Sky box. This is not in the manual. He also told me to press other buttons which are not mentioned in the manual. I looked at a video on the Sky site, it was different than the manual .....FFS! I've not had chance to try again yet. The wife does not want me "messing" with her telly. |

You should just contact the customer's support and resolve the issue. Here is the Sky contact number http://www.contacttelephonenumbers.c...ephone-number/ which will help you. I've had different issues with Sky, but they have some really good support.

Do you think so? There are loads of bloody numbers for Sky. Anyway, I managed to ******** up the Sky box by messing around. I got it back just before the wife came in. This was nearly the end of me. I'm gonna stick the remote back in the drawer, I've had enough. |

This from the Sky Help website http://help.sky.com/articles?topic=remote-control quote Reset your remote: Remove one battery from your Sky remote and then hold down select for at least 60 seconds. Re-insert the battery and press sky. end quote Jim |
