Yes, and what a pain in the arse that is. How are you supposed to
refer to the manual page and to the thing that the manual is telling
you about at the same time?

+1 !

I've been able to stumble my way round the menus, but how is a
non-technical user supposed to manage?

I'm not sure that Sony did the right thing throwing their hat into the
Android ring. The menu response isn't as slow as some users have
reported, but it still seems a backward step.

But why such penny-pinching on a top brand TV? It just damages their

Item returned by another customer and sold on to you?

Definitely not. I wouldn't accept a box without the original factory
seal.

Yup, however (devls adv.) this *is* a Smart TV type that is marketed
towards those that want a bit more of a techy edgy experience.

I'm not sure that Sony did the right thing throwing their hat into the

They could have built a PlayStation into it instead. Nah... Android's OK.

There is a very long moan thread on Sony's own community forum, some
most annoyed that it don't work like their android mobile phone, and the
pesky bugs that cause reboots.

Kodi works well (but the remote is missing Kodi's context menu button -
what?), but I'm not sold on the YouView integration that I've now
uninstalled.

I find Youtube very watchable. That something hyped about an alternative
Sony reality distortion field to improve web sourced video. I think it
works.

Of course all of this software goodness will fall to pixey dust in a few
years so enjoy it while it lasts.

That can't be done meaningfully, because the sets all have brightness,
colour, contrast, and sharpness controls.

Having sold and installed a massive but unnecessary new aerial it is the
custom of the criminal aerial rigger fraternity to sneak the contrast up
a bit. This usually makes the customer think that have a better picture.

LG. I've just bought a 50" one. I wanted a 'dumb' one with just
inputs, nothing else, to connect to a media PC. Imagine my surprise
when I got it hone and it turned out to have 2xHDMI, 1xSCART, composite,
component, 2xUSB, PCMCIA, satellite decoder, Freeview HD decoder, and a
network connection. But it isn't smart

At work we have a 4K IPS LG set. The 42UB820B sold cheap from Sainsbury
last year. It's smart but plays less networked media than the Sony - the
only way I can get it to play compressed 4K is via USB stick. Tedious.
Also gawd knows what spying it is up to, so it's now it's on an isolated
subnet. Fast 4K/HD motion ain't great - it smears. The bottom of the 4K
LG lineup.

But still, I'm looking for the next range sub-£100 of Intel Compute "PC
on a stick" to properly get 4K to it, having judged 4K capable PC
graphics cards a bit expensive - er, I can get a whole PC....

Whenever I've gone into a store and looked at the TVs on display, picked
the one with the best picture then checked the make, it's invariably
turned out to be an LG.

Though picture quality is a very subjective thing, of course.

IPS panels from LG are good. I can walk around the floor and the colour
doesn't shift. My own Sony does so that's physically set up different.

Can't really compare picture quality promise too much just on the brand
name. Dig a bit deeper and you'll find a good panel in a no-brand name
supermarket special. But the signal processing may be pants.

Just started watching a whole lot of Eye Burning LG OLED stuff on YouTube

The first thing that appeared on my new Panny screen when I turned it on
to set it up was a choice of "Home" or "Shop" display! But even after
selecting "Home", when I went into the "Picture" setup later I found
that the contrast was set at 100%.
