Strange.

It seems it's been badly repacked by someone. There should be a book,
there should be batteries. That sheet of paper sounds like a quick setup
guide.

Have a look on Sony's support website and download the full user
manual. In the first few pages there normally is a diagram showing the
supplied box contents?

Sometimes there's a CD with a PDF manual, but sometimes nowadays not
even that, as the version on the website is likely to be newer.

In any case, most people probably did the same with the CD as they'd
formerly done with the printed manual, i.e. put it aside and lose it.
At least if I've got something on the computer I know where it is.

Indeed, I've a folder called "manuals" on the computer - just like I have
in a filing cabinet

It's a catch 22 when you can get the manuals on-line but can't get
on-line without the manuals.
In the case of the TV, the least I would expect is a printed diagram
of the rear sockets, as it's not always easy to identify them behind
the set when it's in position.

I recently encountered the nasty practice of the manufacturer's website
offering what appears to be the manual for *a* TV only to find that it
is the manual for for several different series of TVs - so the things
fill of comments such as "Depending on the model", "Depending on the
country and model", etc.

It's also a "dump" of the on-screen help system so the order is ecentric
and there is no table of contents or index.

And it's Lithium batteries that are a fire risk, and have lots of
transportation restrictions now, not the cheapy 'get you going'

No, definitely not. I checked evry inch of the packing and then my
wife looked too. She doesn't miss a thing (not always to my advantage)

I've just chopped up the box and plastic for recycling. No trace of
batteries.

I set one of these up recently am puzzled how technology literate Sony
are assuming users are, even with the manual.

For that, I sincerely hope Which magazine are NOT recommending these
sets, even though the picture quality is admirable.

Seems to be a new thing with electrical goods that use batteries. I
bought three radio controlled clocks last year, from or via Amazon,
and none of them came with batteries.
I concluded that its either because someone has decided that an awful
lot of money can be saved by not supplying them or because they got
fed up with end users complaining that the batteries arrived flat,
which might have been untrue but wasn't worth invesigating, and
someone realised that an awful lot of money can be saved etc.
Having said that I've just looked at some random Sony TVs on Amazon
and they all said batteries supplied.
