Spent Christmas in a budget hotel in Weston Super Mare. One joke
allowed! and we saw the sea in three times - bonus?! Hotel TVs had a problem. Weston sees Mendip, Wenvoe and Stockland Hill. Added problem is that Wenvoe and Mendip channels are interleaved in same frequencies. Some rooms had BBC1 West on channel 1, some BBC Wales and others BBC1 South West. Hotel staff had no idea of how to fix the 'problem'. Those with BBC Wales on channel 1 were told they could find BBC1 West on channel 800! To add insult to injury the manual supplied in rooms was for a Humax TV, when they had Panasonic ones. Got me wondering how many other establishments cope. I've always said Digital TV was too complicated for the masses! Richard |

Disadvantage is that although analogue allocations that remained the same from the 1960s until DSO, DTT have and will keep changing. Plus, I suspect in WSM Wenvoe will come blasting in, and be receivable on cutlery and tooth fillings anyway. The other way is to have central DTT and D-Sat receivers, and distribute on a number of home made muxes. Some hotels I've stayed in seem to use IP based distribution, fed from (presumably) central receivers. -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. |

I've always said Digital TV was too complicated for the masses! Richard 16 years ago I was made temporarily redundant but got a job as maintenance guy in quite a large dump of a hotel. One of the guests complained that the telly was not working. I fixed the aerial cable thing as I'd done it before. The telly only picked up a couple of channels but the guest was okay with that. This was good as I had *no* idea of how to tune the others in. Since that distant time I've stopped in many Travelodges etc, most of the tellys were up the creek. I watch very little telly at home and have little idea of how to scan for new channels etc. Should I do this? And yes, you are correct in saying that digital TV is too complicated for the masses. |

Its not really, its the fact that nobody thought ahead did they? Many seem
to have gone freesat in myexperience, which gives them the option of enabling sky if the punter pays for it during their stay.
