Default What's the use of "catch up" on smart devices ...

.... If they don't offer all of the programs available

Note that I'm not referring to them only offering a limited choice of catch
up services, I'm referring to them "cherry picking" the programs that they
offer from a service that they do provide.

I missed a prog that I wanted to record last week due to a clash and I
thought "now I have my smart box hooked up to my new wifi, I can see it via
catch up".

It was a mainstream program on the Beeb during primetime evening viewing and
the fecking program isn't offered

and this is supposed to be "the future" of TV!

what moron thought this up?

(FTAOD I checked up with iPlayer on my PC and it is available via that
route)

What really gets me angry is when I've seen the first few episodes of a
show on catch up, then for some unknown reason the next episode isn't
available.

This happened with the Kennedys. Episode two wasn't on iplayer via v+ box.

Usually if a program is not available on iPlayer it's because the BBC
doesn't have the rights for distribution it in that manner.

Was it Match of the Day by any chance?

You'll usually not see movies, or sports coverage on iplayer, or any
catch up service. Rights for sports can be immensely complex, there are
even restrictions on how often and when clips can be shown during news
bulletins in the hours and days after an event.

Fairly unlkely that they would acquire the rights of some episodes of
a series and not others.

I didn't see any mention of episodes in the original post, did you?

I don't think Match of the Day comes in episodes.

So I don't really see what the relevance of that is.

It was(is) available on iPlayer, just not on my smart TV

Wednesday, BBC2 not a single program, after 16:45 is available

ITV, programs after 21:00 are never offered. I note that most days this
week there was football at 22:30, but not every day and FWIW the football is
available on ITVPlayer

(times given are start time of the last available prog)

I have an LG Smart TV, Freeview, Freesat and EE TV and can't get All4 (4OD)
on any of them!
