Default How do I stop TIVO from recording.

Is it possible to put the TIVO to sleep so it's not spending endless
hours keeping the 30 minute buffer upto date when we are all at
work/school or asleep.

I just think its a waste having the machine continually recording (i.e
the buffer) for 24/7. I've noticed that turning the Satellite receiver
off, so that the TIVO is not receiving a scart signal seems to do the
trick, but this requires doing it manually as the TIVO never switches
the SAT off after recording.

I'm thinking along the lines of a cron job that will kill the service
that does the buffer recording at 12:00 midnight and restarts it at
15:00 in the afternoon. This should still allow the tivo to record
scheduled programs.

Is this possible ?, anyone know How I'd go about identifying what needs
to be killed.

Thanks

Wiggi

Unlike a VCR, you are not going save any power by stopping the record
buffer. The hardrive keeps spinning. If you would shutdown the
hardrive, you'll save power, BUT you would put more wear and tear on the
hardrive starting up than just letting is run all the time.

You are missing the whole point of Tivo. You tell what you like to
watch and while you are asleep/working, it is constantly checking the TV
quide and automatically recording programs for you. It it were turned
off, it cound not do this. That is why there is no "OFF" button on any
Tivo.
