Rather than trying to put words in my mouth, you'd do better to think
more carefully about your own questionable opinions. A racist is,
well look it up for yourself on the web, ditto for bigotry and
paranoia. The definitions that you will find would seem to match the
trend of your posts closer than mine, however there was no part of my
post above that unambiguously implied that you are guilty of any or
all of them - I merely said that we had them aplenty in this country
and could do without them - so your reply has merely revealed that
you must have recognised yourself in them!

No, your insinuation was very clear.

And do you know, I don't think the word racist has a meaning. Everyone
uses it to mean what they want it to mean, so it is meaningless. Of
course it is commonly used by the left in an attempt to close down a
discussion on immigration, which has very little to do with race per se.

It mostly seems to mean "I don't want you to say that, and I can't be
bothered to explain why, so I don't expect to be questioned".

A great many words ending in "-ist" or "-ism" work in the same way. If
you can successfully label somebody with one of the forbidden "isms",
then anything they say immediately becomes null and void, except that
sometimes you can also get them punished for saying it.

I'm aware of plenty of indigenous uncultural behaviour that any
civilised country could do well without - bigotry, racism, paranoia
- you name it we've got it.

If there weren't any foreigners here we could be as bigoted as we like.

Come on, get real.

6% of this country is Asian or Afro, so call it 1 in 20. Yet on CBBC or
CBeebies it's one in four, at least. On the news when they do a vox pop
on the street they always have at least one ethnic, and it isn't a white
ethnic it's a black or brown one, so they're selecting by skin colour!
How bad is that?

It's just such an insult to the intelligence. It reminds me of the
Sunday School teachers when I was a kid. Why do they think they are
fooling us, and more to the point, why do they think we need to be fooled?

Bill

What kind of obsessive jerk even bothers to notice the colour of
someone's skin when they're interviewed in such situations.

A person's appearance can often give some insight into their
psychological make-up, social class, etc. This includes their racial
characteristics. It's an unfortunate fact that there's a degree of
correlation between a person's racial characteristics and their cultural
values, politics, and so forth. For instance, it is generally accepted
that Afros are likely to vote Labour. Since many of the interviews
concern such matters it's very relevant to note the person's race. If
there were to be a series of interviews on the streets of London about
Scottish independence, it would be entirely relevant to note the
interviewee's accent.

As for it taking an obsessive jerk to notice the colour of a person's
skin, well, would it take such a jerk to notice other characteristics,
such as whether they were disabled, their apparent age, etc? I think
not. So why is race different? Why do you set race on a pedestal, above
all other things? Why is it so important to you? Are you an obsessive
jerk by any chance?

A belief that might be true and it might prove false, but since we all
hold it, based on experience, I suppose it usually comes good.

Seems like a good idea to me. Teach kids who might not otherwise be exposed
to other cultures that they do actually exist. Might stop them turning
into the kind of person who spends their time constantly looking for racial
bias.

Ah yes, that's the second time you've tried to go for the man (rather
ineptly) and not the argument.

Nowhere in the above thread have I gone for the man. You CHOSE to
apply names specifically to yourself that I had only applied
generally. The consequences of that are your problem entirely.

Reasonable to assume therefore that you
don't have one.

As above, I don't need one.

Notice I'm not calling names.

As above, you called them of yourself ... However, because I hate to
disappoint you, I will now oblige:
