Default charger for ipad 4

I know nothing of these gadgets, but I am required under the
Subservience of Grandads Act to provide a charger for an iPad 4, and
'one that isn't so slow please Grandad.'

What's the best thing to buy, without getting ripped off?

You can buy iPad charger from the likes of eBay or in shops. The thing
to look for is that it a 12W charger - which will charge slightly
faster than the 10W chargers used on earlier iPads (which WILL
still work!).

I got a second "genuine Apple" 12W charger for the office.

You cannot charge an iPad faster than a 12W charger does it as that's
what the unit will take!

You're lucky it's just the charger. One of mine has recently lost her
phone, and being a teenager is thereby socially dead without it.
Nothing has been directly requested, but I know my place...

Do beware of 'genuine Apple chargers' that seem too cheap to be true. There
have been a number of cases of these quite literally bursting into flames.

There was a similar story in our local rag a few months ago but the plug was
little more than a molten blob of plastic afterwards - this one looks
positively good by comparison.

I don't have an iPad but I do have a tablet with keyboard (one battery
each).

I bought one of these to charge them:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It works.

The iPad 4 is in the long list of things it will charge.

I'm not sure that there is any way of charging an iPad or other device
faster than normal.

Price: £6.47 & FREE Delivery

Ignore the line in the spec, that says "Package includes Earphone/cable
Hard Case/Bag + earphone + Wall Charger + Car Charger + Micro USB Data
Charging Cable".

Cue 'The Four Yorkshiremen'. The first 'phone I remember was kept in
the hall, and was for everyone's use.

Ones absolutely promised to be "Genuine Apple" are only ~£6.99 on eBay!

Do check when it arrives - real ones have their Apple part number etc.
in ink directly on the plastic itself - not on a label.

iPad 4 (and iPad Air) will charge at 12W - and that is what their supplied
charger is. Earlier models (and their chargers) were 10W max

Not Apple obviously.

No sooner had the rest of the world agreed to use micro-USB as the charger
for all portable devices than Apple come out with the incompatible (and
naturally much more expensive) lightning connector, and they slug the phones
not to work with aftermarket chargers.

Just avoid Apple and their myriad ways to lock you and rip you off...

and many many others.

i remember the bt ads that appeared on tv boasting that with their new
phones you could.... unplug them from the socket!
cue lots of footage of young people doing just that - i do recall our
first one being hardwired in.
