Hi All,
She's finally got fedup with her (replacement) Humax PVR-9150T [1] and replaced it with a s/h Topfield TF5800 like mine. ;-) Except (of course), both the remote operate both the Toppys. ;-( So, a quick Google has thrown up talk of different remote 'modes', taps and all sorts of other extenders and hardware but before I do anything I thought I'd ask here in case there is a 'simple' solution? Failing such, and as she sits very near her STB, I could effectively make her remote 'wired' by extending the TX LED into the case of her Toppy and masking off the IR window. However, before I do that I was wondering if you could replace the IR LED with a visible red one and cover her IR window with some suitable red filter material? Would that be enough to isolate the two systems? Open to any other workable ideas of course. ;-) Cheers, T i m [1] Irregular rebooting. |

Tim If the two boxes are in different parts of the room, try a combination of partially blinding the sensors with tape and pin-holes, and shielding the sensors with card so each will only respond when aiming directly at it. -- Graham. %Profound_observation% |

I had thought of trying that but they could both be used (accessed) from similar locations so I was just checking to see if there was something more definitive first. It could end up being what I do though and as long as it prevents even 'most' of the issues it might be sufficient (I'll try the polarising filters first and then add the masking after that). Solved this a while back, once, as follows: It was for a bloke who had two identical Humax sat boxes, one on top of the other. He was a bit of a nutter who wanted to be able to record three or four things at once and also watch live TV, and feed HDMI out to the bedrooms. He had no watchable terrestrial reception. It was a static caravan behind a load of trees. I put a 4" x 4" mirror in front of the top box, which was set back a bit from the other one, which was immediately below it. I put a piece of card just to the right of the IR sensor on the bottom box, sticking out at a right angle. I messed around with the position of the mirror (bluetack)'til it worked as I wanted. The idea was he had one remote with a piece of black tape over the IR, with an experimentally determined number of pinholes in it. That remote was pointed directly at the two receivers and the mirror screened the top one from it. The other remote had a bit of card taped to the left side of it at the front as a screen. It was used by pointing it at the wall (I think it was cream wallpaper) off to the right, which reflected enough IR to go to the top receiver via the mirror.This idea did work OK but he had to be careful how he pointed the remotes. I haven't heard from the bloke since so either it all works fine or he thought I was a total nutter, not safe to be let loose on the public. Bill |

Cool, I've ordered a bit and will let you know how it works out. I'll (after checking the final required sizes first) cut it into 4 squares and tape a pair vertically on one setup and a pair horizontally on the other. If it works I might fit the filters behind the front panel on the Toppys similar behind the 'windows' on the remotes. As long as the remote Toppy pairs are held true it should work for the direct transmissions but I'm not sure about any of the hard reflections? Cheers, T i m |
