Maybe one can still get those old PMxxxx test pattern generators we used to
have. Philips was involved i seem to recall. No pretty picture of course as
they were made by a custom chip.

You didn't say it was a digital test card. I assumed you meant the
ancient one with the noughts and crosses.

Err, actually it's both those things !

Google is your friend. You can download it then play it back
from a laptop.

I'm inadequate. I can't find a full 1080 source, only compressed YouTube
uploads. Any clues gratefully received.

I have still got my Labgear colour bar / crosshatch generator that
every GTVR tech was issued with.

All standard 74xx series TTL chips, and when you look at the output on
a scope, it is clearly not to broadcast spec, but it was useful.

The links here are still alive (note the dot preceding the file names,
which on a linux box means hidden from normal ls, ls -a will show).

Me too although its years since I tried it. You're right about the
(non)broadcast quality but it was useful for geometry and decoder checks.

It's probably been mentioned to you before, but WLM does not quote
properly, you might consider using Thunderbird or Agent instead.

I thought I had at least pinched a few chips from mine over the years,
but when I found it in the garage a year or so ago I was surprised to
see it still worked.

What do you mean 'mine'? The owner's name is written on the front!

Difficult one that. Who got the assets of GTVR? Box Clever perhaps?

Thing is, would they want it back, not having CE approval and all.
Then there is the issue of the two core mains lead I fitted. In the
1970s you really wouldn't want earthed test equipment around tellys.

Anyway, I can't say owt. The plug on our concrete mixer has 'Royal xxx
Hospital' engraved on it in red. My dustsheets are actually bedsheets
and are embroidered 'HMP xxxxx'. The ruler on the desk in front of me
says 'WRCC' on it. Who remembers the West Riding County Council? And who
remembers Visnews? I still have a roll of VCR tape labels with their
name on them. And my dad still occasionally wears the shorts the army
gave him when he was in the RAMC rugby team at Roslyn Park in 1942...
