He does seem a little, um unconventional. I'm surprised anyone takes his ads
seriously in any case, but if you make something there are always people willing to buy it, much like that Bomb detector and the oil prospecting device of recent years. The problem is that Russ is not a con man, he actually believes it all.... If I tip a mug of cold beer into the river, for a short time I can detect
its presence, but soon the dilution of all that water makes it invisible and to all intents and purposes undetectable, although its still in the river. The ASA have form as long as yer arm for this kind of thing. Its a bit like the way drugs companies compare their latest high-price drug in trials with 'placebo' so they can say how good it is when they cherry-pick which of their confidential trials to eventually publish. Better than nothing in some situations. Wonderful! But better than many cheaper alteratives a lot of the time?... silence. The regulators allow this and even support the data being suppressed. WRT RA and RF-reducing mains cables, etc, yes using one mains cable or another may change the amount of RF in a test. Which tells you nothing about if any other cable would have done any worse or better in any other real case. But the ASA are there to legitimise adverts. Not to do real science. FWIW I did an analysis of a similar case years ago. But my flabber wasn't ghasted much when the ASA thought all was well. Tells you more about them than about the things they 'investigate'. http://www.audiomisc.co.uk/cables/ma...ingTheory.html Jim -- Please use the address on the audiomisc page if you wish to email me. Just like my car seems to be a bit more sprightly after an oil change or it's passed its MOT, perhaps buying a stupidly expensive cable gives a _perceived_ audio improvement to some people. |
