Default Is teletext dead ?

I note teletext has disappeared from ITV and Ch4 - in fact probably
everywhere except BBC1 SD and BBC2 SD.

I do use it for racing results and football results when I don't wish
to check on the computer.
(Also I use it via Freeview, as it takes too long to access via my
Virgin cable box.)

Is the BBC teletext on borrowed time ?

Also, interactive video seems to be only 301 (on Freeview). No sign of
302 or 303 HD. Will this vary according to needs - eg Wimbledon ?
(Again, too slow / pain to access via Virgin cable box.)

"Teletext" is dead

it's been replaced by a digital alternative which AIUI is not run by a
separate company and thus its continuance is at the whim of each broadcaster

BBC is now known as the Red Button and is very much alive
and kicking. The old version they called Ceefax. Sport is on
the red button on any BBC channel page 300. The football
header page is 302, results are on 316, and league tables
are on 324.

Teletext was a company in its own right and supplied
on-screen text services to ITV, CH4 and five. They ceased at
DSO, the last being in Autumn 2012.

I'm aware of that and currently use it for racing and football
results.
My point was that only BBC carry it, so is it on borrowed time ?
Ch4 (the racing station) used to have lots of racing info (on MHEG
teletext, not old fashioned text).

When MHEG was first introduced for text, it was horrible to navigate and
almost unusably slow, so that hardly anybody used it and instead went back
to the analogue-TV text or used the Internet if they had it. Now that you
point it out, I see that the few pages that remain on BBC "Red Button" are
actually easy to find and respond promptly, but I'm betting that very few
people use it, so although nobody's mentioned a plan to switch it off, I'd
guess that not many would notice if it was.

The broadcasters probably assume that most people that would be interested
in a "text" version of sports news would use the Internet, hence:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/
http://news.google.com/?topic=s

Or they would expect people to have smartphones, both of the above pages
being available in a mobile version. And a quick check of the mobile apps
stores shows several sports-headlines apps.

There is also a difference in the content between Freeview and
Freesat.

For instance on Freesat there are no airport arrivals pages, in fact
no Travel News pages at all.

I thought it had died about 30 years ago.

It's still available on Dutch cable analogue.

Teletext subtitles are still available on my opera LaserDiscs.
