Default LG 42" LCD TV Screen Problem

Hi

Does anyone know if modern large screen LCD TV's have a glass or plastic
screen in front of the LCD panel?

My 42" LG has strange markings on the screen. It's as if dust has got in
the screen causing the strange marks/shadows.

These marks are NOT on the surface of the screen. Please see picture below:

The TV is part of my Home Theatre set-up and is connected to a Media
Centre PC so I used MS Paint to display a light grey background which
shows the marks up well. These marks can also be seen while watching
live TV.

Does anyone know what might be causing these marks?

Is it LED or fluorescent lit? If it is LED I believe there can be
problems with 'blotchy' illumination.

Dont' worry, someone who knows the depths of it will be along in
a minute.

Blimey, that looks awfully like pressure damage to me. The only other
time I've seen and LCD display do this was when it was behind a plastic
screen with a high static charge on it, but that won't be the case here
because that always disappears over time.

What a bummer.

The TV is around 7 years old so I think it will be a CCFL type panel.

I have a Samsung that is even worse. My understanding is that it is
stresses with the bonding of the various layers, and there is nothing
you can do.

Mine seems to get worse as the screen warms up.

Perhaps there are only a few makers of the screens and both have the same
one.
