I just went and looked at the items flagged with AD and they have a large
number of them that when played do not have it. Has the drone doing this
fallen asleep at the console? The Quatermass Experiment film, Horizon on the
Dinasaurs and many more are just silent for us blind folk. Someone has
erred, but I know better than to use their frame to conplain, the reply will
be three months later.

People don't seem to consider those with poor eyesight. Not even their
friends. A neighbour has macular degeneration and uses a white stick.
He was standing outside one evening waiting for friends. They were going
for dinner and then to the theatre to see Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
When I asked him how he had enjoyed the show he said not much as they
had bought the tickets for the Circle and he could see practically
nothing and they had to do AD for him.
You should have been with us when we went to see it in London I told
him. We had front row seats and were showered with table tennis balls:-)
They told me about that bit he said.

There are a lot of AD performances in theatres these days. You need to ask
as often its just a few performances that they do it on.
No in this case it looks like BBC has either uploaded the wrong versions to
the AD flagged list, or they have actually just made a complete balls up.

I went to an opera production at Covent Garden which was "signed". Why go
to an opera if you can't hear the music?

Some people perhaps don't have the choice on whether their ears work or not;
and, perhaps they enjoy the production.

Presumably they are flagged as having AD if the original broadcast did.

I'd guess that when the time comes to add it to the iPlayer database, some
technician has to prepare several copies in various resolutions, and
there's plenty of opportunity to flip the wrong switches and lose the AD.
Maybe it depends on which technician does the job on a given day.
