I thought I had read here that the newer TIVO remotes had a standby button,
so I ordered one to program my u iversal remote. The new remote has no standby button. What am I missing (besides a Standby button)? |

What am I missing (besides a Standby button)? I think the Sonys are the only ones with such a button (and they label it POWER, I think). The other models can go into Standby via the menu system. Do you need to go into Standby mode so often anyway? It doesn't save hardly any power and the whole device in full power mode is rated at about 40 watts. All Standby does is shut off the A/V outputs, which may be helpful if you are using an auto-sensing A/V switching box. It stops recording of the buffer on the DirecTV-TiVo combo boxes, but not the other TiVo boxes. That's all it does. |

I believe it also stops the buffering of live TV, so that if you have 2
concurrent shows to be recorded, both tuners are free. "Bao H. Lammy" wrote in message ... Scheduled recordings will preempt saving of the live buffer whether in Standby or not. Suggestions recording doesn't preempt the active (foreground) tuner except in Standby. Both tuners might be used to record Suggestions or scheduled events while a saved program is being viewed. The existing live buffer is maintained during Standby unless recording occurs or a service data download temporarily changes the channel. |
