Yes, you are. At least you sound like it, unless you were joking (it's
hard to tell with this kind of communication).

On balance I wouldn't have thought the audio problems were deliberate,
but you never know. It only takes one silly person doesn't it?

As far as I'm concerned she did some good things and some bad things.
What I hate her for, though, is her autocratic style. She's the
closest we've had to an elected dictator.

She operated cabinet government like any PM. At the time the country was
in a mess and needed a strong leader.

The housing shortage is the result of Labour's policy of filling the
country with immigrants.

The housing shortage is the result of Labour's policy of filling the
country with immigrants. Bill

The housing shortage is the result of Thatcher selling off council housing
stock and forbidding councils to use the money to build more.

Gordon brown in 2004 promised to reverse that policy, but once the
Treasury had a stern word with him he forgot all about that.

e.g. Watford council 10 years ago under Noo Labour pressure sold off
it's council stock to a housing association. As they weren't allowed to
build more they spent the money on a sports stadium and a new swimming pool.

Nowhere to live, but you can get fit for the park bench you'll sleep on

Brighton council held out against the pressure to sell it's 12,000 council
homes to a HA and Noo Labour punished them in 2006 by withholding £10M in
grants

The Treasury encouraged Thatcher's housing policy and have enforced it
on every Gov since

You may well be right...
:-(

I just wish that I (or anyone I've ever met for that matter) had _any_
confidence on what they'll do if they get in. Seems to me it will be
more of the same old same.

They are all the same property owning representative Parties, just with
different colours

As UKIP have a different Dogma, i'll probably vote for them

The housing shortage is the result of Thatcher selling off council housing
stock and forbidding councils to use the money to build more.

But at the time other social housing organisations were building, and
some councils were in partnership with them. Also the building of
private housing continued; in fact it increased. All Thatch did was
swing the balance from public to private housing.

Yep. Won't it be great when all those ex-pats get shipped back here from
all over Europe?

Let's just hope the rest of the world doesn't catch on.

Funny that, I was wondering how Polish builders were causing a housing
shortage...
