http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/internet/...t-Card-Special Thanks for the link. Linked on that page is a doc that explains the BBCs dolby use. http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/rd/pubs/w...les/WHP175.pdf So now I know that p21(17) they "generally use" mixdown params of -3dB for both center and surround. I have nothing to test but guess they actually send this in their dolby stream but what about AAC on DVB-T2? Dialogue level and drc are used but I've never seen anything mixdown related in a stream even though it is possible, so I suppose we get whatever the decoder does by default (-6dB surround?). Does any one know why DVB-T2 didn't use dolby? I would have thought that it is more compatible with existing kit, eg. if I actually had a 5.1 system my TV would pass dolby to it via s/pdif but I don't think it can with AAC and I guess less amps would take it anyway. |

I always thought the girl on the Sveridges Radio card was quite nice.

That new word in the OED, "Omnishambles" springs readily to mind. It's hard not to laugh out loud when it gets to the Red Bee/Probel bit. If anyone bangs on about how much better Digital is than analogue, just walk away... If anyone bangs on about how much better Digital is than analogue, just walk away... I've not yet read it. But it sounds like what I've expect from having had a peek at the 'surround sound' used by BBC HDTV at the time of last year's Proms! :-/ Dialogue level and drc are used but I've never seen anything mixdown related in a stream even though it is possible, so I suppose we get whatever the decoder does by default (-6dB surround?). I asked various people at the BBC about mixdown, etc. They all gave different answers for what 'standard' the BBC was using! As documented, I'm surprised the decoders don't just burst into flames at every programme junction. Does any one know why DVB-T2 didn't use dolby? I would have thought that it is more compatible with existing kit, eg. if I actually had a 5.1 system my TV would pass dolby to it via s/pdif but I don't think it can with AAC and I guess less amps would take it anyway. FWIW I've already encountered confusion between 'dolby' and the aac in feedback I've had to magazine articles... I *presume* the acc is to give better quality, etc. But it all adds to the joy of 'standards' dunnit! The more, the merrier! :-) Slainte, Jim -- Please use the address on the audiomisc page if you wish to email me. I don't have the facilities, sadly: I hope someone here will capture the "10 minute loop" and put it on YouTube, or something (the nostalgic bit sounds interesting, even if recreated in some cases). I agree with the various comments that say, basically, that we can't believe they can't find a couple of minutes a day to send the test signals. -- J. P. Gilliver. I have a Sky HD+ box and a Panasonic Freesat HD with BD burner. The former does not recognise the item and just says press back up to proceed, but the second has taken the entire lump as recordable. -- Clive |

On Sky boxes, you need to set it as a manual recording, (same procedure as recording radio channels) -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. www.paras.org.uk |
